Summer camp activities categories

If you can think of it, you can teach it at camp.

The possibility is limitless to what you can teach at summer camps in America.

Whether you’re looking to coach your favourite sport, specialise in your area of art, or instruct campers on how to drive drones (yes we have that 🚀), you’ll find your role at camp.

Prefer a general counselor role?

There are way more activities at summer camp than we've listed here, so if you've got a different skill or hobby, most camps will encourage you to teach it to your campers.

Outside of activities, the majority of our camps hire general camp counselors based on energy, enthusiasm, and personality and not specific skills.

There's a summer camp role for everyone.

FAQs

I can't see my activity, can I still apply?

Absolutely! With hundreds of summer camps around the country, each of which hire staff for their own various activities, there's a strong chance your hobby or passion is a role in at least one of these. We've placed everyone from rocket specialists to drone fliers, so we're confident we'd place you, too.

Do I need experience with teaching kids in my chosen activity?

Experience teaching kids is a bonus, but isn't required. A lot of our activity specialists have been part of a particular sport, hobby, or passion in a participation way, or have taught to fellow adults. This is absolutely fine, as with the right attitude and then training at summer camp, you'll then be able to lead campers.

If I'm an activity specialist, do I just focus on my one area?

Yes, as the leader in a particular area, you'll be based at your chosen activity area each day, whilst camp counselors bring rotating groups of campers down for different sessions throughout the day. This allows you to specialise and lead effectively, as often there's extra requirements, such as safety, to deliver.

I haven't taught or led an activity before, is that okay?

We're looking for people with the right attitude and passion for a particular area. This will far outweigh the fact you may not have led or taught it before. For example, if you love wakeboarding and consider yourself pretty good, we're certain you can go on to be a great leader at summer camp.

What's the difference between an activity specialist and camp counselor?

An activity specialist will primarily focus on one area or activity, such as rock climbing, wakeboarding, or arts and crafts, as then they can provide the highest level of care in it. Camp counselors are with a group of campers for their entire time, being the leading 'go-to' person for absolutely everything day to day.
