"I was hired to work as Dance Coordinator at camp as I had 17 years experience in dance, I also had a bunch of different acting and performance arts experience through University.
As I was the dance coordinator which meant I lead this as an activity during the day but I would also jumped in on camp musical productions and help choreograph performances. As with other performing arts jobs, it's about your own skill level and making sure you have the experience. Look to your local dance schools or amature dramatic society for opportunties to volunteer. Your performing arts application will also heavily benefit from a show reel, look to incorporate this into your showcase and show off your favourite performance pieces.
When you begin your application you’ll be asked to select your top skills. You’ll be able to choose your specialised skill set - directing, dance or drama - go into detail about what you’re going to bring to the role, your skill level and if you’re already qualified. A camp director will then be able to assess if you’re a good fit and invite you to their camp.
Campers will come down to the session as a division (age group). Divisions can range from 10-30 campers. You’ll have the assistance of counselors but it will be up to you to instruct a small group.
