If you’re a little worried about your interview, there’s no need…
We’ve taken your top questions about the whole interview process, put them all in one place and packaged them complete with answers. Read on and feel those fears float away.
What is the interview like?
Believe us when we say, your interview with your national team member is one of the most relaxed and stress free interviews you could attend. The interviewer wants to get to know you, your motivation and your skills. Be prepared for a friendly face, open questions and to be talking about yourself, a lot. We always want to make sure you feel comfortable so you give the best answers. Breathe in, breathe out and go.
What is the interview for?
Your interview is to get to know you better and make sure you are the right fit for summer camp. Later on in the application camp Directors, the top dogs who hire for the summer camps, will be using the report which the lovely national team member wrote all about you. So make sure you answer all those questions!
We also need it for the US embassy, to say we’ve met you and that you’re a good egg.
Where will the interview be?
Your interview will take place online, on a platform called Whereby (or sometimes, Skype). You can tell us where you're from on your application - even your term time address, so that we can make sure that it’s booked in and no hassle.
How long is the interview?
The interview tends to run for about half an hour. Sometimes to get the most out of you and your application, the interview may run a little longer. Plan for an extra 30 minutes to make sure that both you and the interviewer aren’t rushed at the end.
Once your interview is finished, it’s a brilliant time to ask all those burning questions and find out more about summer camp/ what happens next. Our National Team are there to answer anything you might think of.
What questions will I be asked?
Alongside the information that you have given us in your application, you will also be asked about you and your background. We are keen to know all about you, your personality and why you want to go. Before the interview - think about some achievements you’re proud of, examples of you in a team and what is it about camp which really interests you.
What do I need to bring?
Bring your A game, other than that - just bring yourself. We would say that having your application with you will be a big help and after, it’s good to have on your to chat about improvements and bit’s to add.
What should I wear?
It’s an informal interview so there is no need to dress up - if you want to wear a suit, feel free, but most people choose to dress comfortably and casually. There is no need to dress to impress.
What should I do to prepare?
The best way to prepare is to fill in your application as much as possible. The more you add, the more our national team member can tailor their questions to your skill set, rather than spending time trying to find those skills.
Finishing off that application will also highlight any questions you might want to ask, or if you’re confused about anything the interview is the best time to bring it up and get your answers.
If there is anything else on your mind then we want to know, call us for a chat at HQ, we’re always here to help.
